Abstract
The purpose of the article is to determine the value and importance of introducing new religion studies courses in the system of State education. The importance of the instructions by The Ministry of Education is analyzed here from the point of view of spiritually-moral education of the youth. The content of new religious studies courses is examined in the light of realization of the freedom of worship of the person, which is being formed in the State general education school. The question is raised about the relationship between the State and the Russian Orthodox Church in the modern life of Russia; some unclear positions of both sides are revealed concerning teaching the foundations of the Orthodox culture in the State school.
