Abstract
The article turns to the analysis of the character of mutual relations between modern reader and literature, to the problems of understanding and reading which testify to the accruing crisis of reader's culture. The author connects the reasons for the decrease in the role and quality of reading, decline of the significance of literature in the present cultural space with the process of strengthening of the feeling of presentism entailing the radical value relativism. Simultaneously with ascertaining the accruing systemic crisis of reader's culture the author reveals the potential of media-culture, its creative resources, where paradoxical strategies of reading and understanding are formed.
