Abstract
The article addresses the problem which Russian Universities have already faced (or will face): adoption of the competency-building approach to educational process. It is emphasized that, as the majority of innovations, this process has both positive and negative sides. The article offers a potential algorithm of transition to a new model of specialist training, which has been tested at the Novosibirsk State Technical University. The basic principle of this algorithm is the professional analysis of the context with the involvement of experts.
