Abstract
The paper is devoted to the problems of creation of new educational paradigm. The author argues that there can be observed two equidirectional tendencies in education: the more the pragmatism and lowering of the demands for education quality are present, the more acutely the practical need for a culture-centered paradigm is felt. The evaluation of the state of Western European education, conducted in the article, confirms this thesis.
