Abstract
The article is devoted to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s legislation modernization that was conducted in the middle of the XVI century, as a significant milestone of the juridical history of the medieval Europe. The legislative modernization was an important element of the overall modernization of economic, administrative, and political relations in this large European state. This article examines prerequisites and sources of the modernization, as well as describes its key features. The article lays special emphasis on the creation of the Lithuanian Statute of 1566. This event represents an example of an implementation of advanced religious and legal ideas of that time, based on foreign legal structures adaptation and being supported by domestic legislative experience.
