Abstract
The article considers the genesis of spatial development and regional policy of post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s and the first decade of the new millennium. The specifics of the Russian transformations are revealed on the basis of comparison with world trends; disadvantages and problem fields are revealed; ways of development are shown.
