Abstract
The article describes new trends, characterizing the military progress of the modern world. In particular, peculiarities of military progress after the «cold war», after the abolition of the bipolar world system are analyzed. NATO continues approaching the Russian border, justifying it by the needs of the struggle against the international terrorism. However, the real aims are the same, although they have acquired more rational appearance appearance. It is important to show in the educational process the ambivalent character of military progress as a part of social progress; at that, the problem of peace, prevention of war is considered as an issue of prime importance.
