Abstract
In the article, there is analyzed the present state of psychological and pedagogical research, devoted to the problem of the teacher's professional self-improvement in the system of higher professional and optional professional education. The author analyzes various scientific papers, notions and their functions in the specified context and reveals the substantial characteristics of the phenomenon under consideration. In conclusion, the author defines the notion of "teacher's professional self-improvement" in conformity with the system of professional and optional professional education and distinguishes the structural elements and the essential characteristics of the notion.
