In the article the author examines the concept of formation of the teacher's professionalism from the positions of philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy; and based on this, he determines its essence, structure and content, and also demarcates the concepts of "professional formation" and "formation of professionalism". The analysis of the periodization of professional formation, the contents of the concept of professionalism, widely represented in the scientific literature, allowed the author to isolate the basic stages of formation of the teacher's professionalism. To expand this concept, there is carried out a substantive analysis of professionalism, which presupposes its study as a property, a process and a state of the professional. It is substantiated that, at present, the problem of working out the measures providing continuous education is especially urgent.
