Abstract
The article provides the characteristic of the civilizational approach with the reference to pedagogical systems and processes. It describes the differences between formational and civilizational approaches, reveals strengths and weaknesses of each approach, and shows the specificities of application of the civilizational approach to the analysis of pedagogical processes by various researchers. The article makes a conclusion that the educational system in any country is impossible if the historical and socio-cultural regularities of the development of this particular country are not taken into consideration.
