Abstract
The paper analyzes main factors that determined the population dynamics in the Kuzbass in the turn of the XIX-XXI centuries. Based on these data the author formulates the dominant trends of demographic development in the region: high rates of population growth as a result of active urbanization process; changing demographic structure and fertility as long-term effects of the Great Patriotic War. Since the early 1990s the nationwide trend of population decline along with declining share of urban population has also become apparent.
