Abstract
The author analyzes the level of military art development among the Russian soldiers and Siberian Tatars as well as the role of military factor in defending the southern boundaries of Western Siberia from Turkic and Mongolian nomads in the end of the XVI - first third of the XVII centuries when there was a real possibility of the Siberian Khanate's restoration.
