Abstract
The author traces the key stages of migrations of the Russian population to the East. He considers such large-scale migrations of population to be the most important geopolitical potential of the development and modern State of Russia. In the article, much attention is paid to the role of social factor in spatial developing of the East of Russia, as well as to characteristic tendencies of such migrations during the passed centuries and especially the decades of the second half of the XXth century.
