Temperature universality of the critical Reynolds number in the Hagen-Poiseuille flow

Abstract

Laminar-turbulent transition was studied experimentally for the water flow in a long circular pipe at a temperature change from 0.8 to 50 oC. A glass capillary 300 mm in length and 1.2 mm in diameter was used in these experiments. It was shown that the critical Reynolds number is a universal value for the whole range of temperatures.
