The solid phase synthesis of Bi₂Mo₃O₁₂ is investigated. The mechanochemical activation is used in order to reduce the synthesis times and temperatures. A 5 h mechanical treatment leads to a drastic decrease in the temperature of classical solid state synthesis of Bi₂Mo₃O₁₂ (from 600 to 350^oC). The product obtained is single-phase, consisting of even size distributed submicronic particles. The synthesis of Bi₂Mo₃O₁₂ was monitored by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). Shape and size changes of reagent particles after mechanical treatment and morphological peculiarities of the products were studied by SEM.
