FACIES ZONING OF LOWER JURASSIC AND MIDDLE JURASSIC OIL AND GAS-BEARING DEPOSITS OF THE SIBERIAN SECTOR OF THE ARCTIC

Abstract
The Lower Jurassic and Middle Jurassic deposits of the Siberian Arctic, which hold promise for oil and gas exploration, are characterized by a complex structure and a low, uneven level of exploration by drilling. A separate facies zoning of these deposits has not yet been developed. The initial information for this zoning was lithological and paleogeographic maps previously compiled by the authors of this article at the regional stratigraphic stage levels. Nine such maps were prepared, five of which covered the Lower Jurassic and four covered the Middle Jurassic. Lithological and paleogeographic regions were identified on each map. Map analysis allowed us to compile lithological and paleogeographic maps of the Lower Jurassic and Middle Jurassic deposits as a whole. These maps formed the basis for the development of a new version of separate facies zoning schemes for the Lower Jurassic and Middle Jurassic deposits in the study region, as presented in this article.
