Abstract
The network of edge ecosystems is organized due to the fragmentation of tree stands. It is characterized by high biodiversity and by the presence of available food base for small mammals. The red squirrel is an important furs trade resource. It is attracted to the forest edges, and its intensive food-obtaining activity under the border conditions must be taken into consideration.
