Abstract
The article analyzes the history of development of the interdisciplinary connections. The chronological sequence is given of their studying beginning from the researchers of the seventeenth century to the contemporary scholars. The features of the definitions of interdisciplinary connections suggested in the XIX and XX centuries, their differences and similarities are described. The lack of the quantitative approaches to the interdisciplinary connections is indicated. The expediency of developing the research of the quantitative estimates of interdisciplinary connections is demonstrated.
