Abstract
The article deals with the influence of the main philosophical and linguistic theories on the formation of multilingual education of schoolchildren in the European countries. As is shown in the present paper, the development of knowledge in philosophy has been tightly connected with new directions in linguistic studies aimed on understanding the nature of language and existing ties of language and thought, the ways of formation of the individual multilingualism and preservation of the multilingualism of the society. The solution of the modern problems concerning the European language education is entrusted to the school multilingual education, which is a multidimensional and multifunctional pedagogical phenomenon.
