Abstract
The paper briefly traces the history of formation of education, first, as a scientific research subject, and then as an object of philosophical reflection. In this regard, the author provides a critical analysis of the extreme approaches proposed in the domestic literature to solving the problem of the subject and status of the philosophy of education. Defining education from a philosophical point of view as a way of being human in the society and, therefore, as a way of becoming the human individuality, and defining philosophy as some form of unscientific knowledge, the author substantiates his understanding of the subject and status of the philosophy of education.
