Abstract
Formation of an information society makes essential impact on professional sphere. A consequence of it is increase of a role of studying of informatics and information technology in universities.
The purpose of training to informatics and information technology of students of high schools is formation of their information culture. One of directions of development of higher education in the Russian Federation is the competence approach. It causes changes in the essence of information culture of university students.
The article reveals the essence of the concept of information culture of the students in the context of the competence approach. The differences and the relationship between the concepts of «information competent» and «information culture».
