Abstract
The article discusses the phenomenon of education as one of the complex institutions of socialization through which society ensures its own development. The attention is focused on the role of philosophy in the process of life-orientation of the person through the educational process. The author presents an interpretation of the philosophical-educational thinking from various historical eras, on the basis of which there is determined the role and place of education in contemporary society.
