Abstract
This article is devoted to private universities as one of the important components of higher education system in Russian Federation. The author considers the problems that the private sector of higher education deals with today. Academic mobility of students and teachers is considered as the main prerequisite of education modernization. The author indicates which key aspects are necessary for the private institutions of higher education to survive in competition and suggests alternative ways of raising the academic mobility of private sector of higher education.
