Abstract
The role of the book in the process of aesthetic education is shown. The book is considered from the point of view of the structural and functional approach. The author's model of the book is offered as the synthesis of arts; it consists of the text, illustrations. The construction and functions of these elements are related to each other and to the function of the book in the culture.
