Abstract
The author investigates mythological ideas about cat and dog at different groups of the Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian peoples. She analyses opinions and examines the reasons of nonidentical attitude at men and women, at Slavs and Finno-Ugrians to the animals endowed with dual symbolism, various demonological functions and taking the part of guides of soul and the first meeting in the Other World.
