Abstract
The current requests of the state towards higher education are to produce innovative products; such production is impossible without using innovative processes and technologies. One of these processes is effective communication of the higher education institution within social networks. However, there are still more questions than answers concerning the search of network efficiency. The article describes the author’s view on the process of Russian higher education institutions’ starting to use social networks. It analyzes the mechanisms of network activity motivation developed by the higher education institutions. Productivity is determined of the social network activity according to the choice of the forms of network cooperation.
