Abstract
The paper deals with traditional ways of natural disaster prevention practiced by the Russian peasants in Siberia in the late XIX – early XX centuries. Based on the archival and published data as well as the author’s field work materials the article examines various methods used by the peasant commune for rainmaking, ceasing of drought, protecting crops from thunderstorm, hail and other calamities. Special attention to the traditional remedies against mass epidemics and epizootics is paid.
