Abstract

The article is devoted to the characteristics of the Surgut population in the XIX – early XX centuries as a local ethnographic group of Russians. Formation of this group is studied from the perspective of frontier theory as interpreted by M.V. Shilovskiy. Based on the contemporary descriptions the author reveals anthropological, linguistic and household features of Surgut dwellers.
