Abstract
The aim of this article is to find interrelation between the text and illustrations in “Ascetical Homilies” of Saint Isaac of Syria, the manuscript dated from the end of XIX century and illustrated by an Ural-Siberian Old-Believer artist. The author describes illustrations, shows how they are related to the texts provided with the miniature paintings; comes to conclusion that these paintings reflect interrelations within the system “monk – the outside world” as well as main monk practices (pure prayer, withdrawal into silence, etc.).
