Abstract

The author considers the conditions in which domestic education operates in the consumer society. There is performed an analysis of the works by J. Baudrillard and и G. E. Debord in which the influence of the consumer society on culture is discussed. The consumer society is shown to be interested in the people, who can be easily manipulated; that is why, it thrusts upon them a system of instrumental values capable of directing them firmly to material prosperity as a criterion of social success. The article investigates the coherence of the axiological features of the free market paradigm of Russian education and the consumer society.
