Abstract
In the article, there are considered the pedagogical ideas and practical experience of upbringing of A.S. Makarenko in the context of the main trends in the historical development of the domestic and world pedagogical classics: the school of studies and the school of life. There is substantiated the thesis that Makarenko is a bright representative of the upbringing pedagogy and the school of life.
