The paper focuses on the educational potential for the development of the all-rounded personality, capable of responding to modernization challenges in modern Russia. It contains an analysis of the main reformation tendencies in the educational field. The author argues for the integration of traditional educational practices and international educational patterns which is necessary to create new educational modes satisfying the modern requirements. The author also characterizes the social-adaptive, innovation and axiological functions of education and defines their importance for the understanding of constantly changing circumstances and further adaptation in the transforming reality.
