Abstract
The article considers the motives of the applicants at the stage of choosing a higher education institution and analyzes the reasons for transformation of the background practices while changing the applicant status to the student status. The authors study the specificities of choosing practices of the students and applicants, identify some characteristics of the designated background practices and their changes. A special attention is given to the practice of consuming the image of NSTU (the Novosibirsk State Technical University) as a part of consuming the educational services.
