Abstract
It is indicated in the article that, under the conditions of mass higher education and realization of its neo-liberal model, the history education experiences considerable difficulties. They are caused by both general decline of student erudition and obvious non-marketable nature of historical knowledge. The author analyzes the practices which help students eliminate the gaps in their historical knowledge and raise the general level of their culture which is one of the traditional problems of higher education.
