Abstract
The article focuses on the need to directly create the image of China among the oriental studies students with the aim of forming their communicative competence necessary for the cross-cultural dialogue. It is shown that the basis of modern concepts about China is a controversial image of the country, which has been formed during a long historical period. In the article there is revealed the importance of perception of China for shaping the image of Russia as a national state.
