In the contemporary higher education institutions a major transfer to a new educational paradigm is being realized. In view of this situation, the significance of the role of teacher in the educational process is not yet clarified; there emerges a necessity to compare the contemporary and traditional semantic and functional content of the image of the higher education teacher.
This article is dedicated to examination of correlations between the teacher's image as the organizer of intellectual macro-environment, as the tutor, as the operator of the educational process, as the disseminator of knowledge and as the giver of information. We considered in detail the person as a basis of the educational paradigm.
