Abstract
The purpose of the article is to study social participation of students as a component of social competencies of the graduate and, simultaneously, to investigate the method of their formation. In the article the essence and the types of social competencies are analyzed, the problems of their mastery under the conditions of the traditional system of education are revealed. On the basis of the results of his own studies on the significance of various social competencies and the analysis of the existing theoretical models, the author substantiates the prospects of using social participation of students for the formation of social competencies in the higher education institution. The article suggests a form of realization and methods of evaluation of the social competencies, formed through the method of social participation.
