Abstract
The aim of the article is to carry out a theoretical-methodological analysis of the transformations of the Russian institutions of higher education at the end of the XXth and in the beginning of the XXIst century. The following questions are discussed: the potential of philosophy of education in the integral conception of the Russian institutions of higher education transformations; the role of the methodological principles of holism and the role of partiality in the investigation of the problem; heuristic principle in considering education in a broad sense - as education-upbringing as applied to the institutions of higher education. The author's contribution is that she has substantiated the approach to education as an attributive sphere of contemporary social life, the necessity of optimum relationship (approximately 60/40) of the state and the private sectors in higher education to strengthen the potential of the Russian state.
